FREE PUBLIC LECTURE The Meeting of Two Cultures: The Story of the Irish in Argentina The UM's Irish Studies Program is hosting Professor Juan Jose Delaney, of the Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires. Professor Delaney will be giving a FREE PUBLIC LECTURE about the long history of the Irish in Argentina.
Argentina was the second most popular destination for the Irish fleeing the famine. Subsequent generations added to the Irish population and strove to preserve their culture and identity within Argentina and in doing so, have left that country with a distinct Irish flair....Professor Delaney, born and bred in Argentina, speaks with a distinct Wexford accent!
Professor Delaney is quite the renaissance man. In addition to teaching literature at the Universidad del Salvador, he is also a published author and a historian working with Professor Dermot Keogh (visiting Professor of Irish History at the UM) on the history of the Irish in Argentina.
This lecture should prove to be very interesting to all us far-flung descendents of the Irish.
